NBA Rumors: Bucks' Patrick Beverley Was Taunted with 'Cancún on 3' by Pacers Fan
Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley was taunted by an Indiana Pacers fan who shouted "Cancún on three" from the stands, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. During an ensuing exchange, Beverley twice threw a ball into the crowd.
The NBA is "looking into" the incident, Charania reported.
The altercation occurred late in the fourth quarter of the Bucks' 120-98 road loss in Game 6 of the first round.
The broadcast showed Beverley throwing the ball into the first few rows of the crowd, where it appeared to hit a female fan.
When the ball was tossed back, he immediately threw it into the crowd again, this time hitting the hands of a male fan.
At the time, the Bucks were trailing by 20 points with under three minutes left on the clock.
The fan yelled the Cancún taunt at the Bucks as they were breaking up a huddle, according to a report from The Athletic's Charania, Lauren Merola and Eric Nehm.
Prior to the taunt, there were "obscenities" directed at Beverley from the stands, according to Charania, Merola and Nehm.
Beverley said Friday morning on social media that the exchange had been occurring "all night."
He then added, "But I have to be better."
The NBA is also looking into Beverley's interactions with media after the game, Charania reported.
Beverley dismissed ESPN's Malinda Adams from a postgame interview circle. Adams said he later called to apologize.
Beverely recorded six points and five assists in 40 minutes on the court during the blowout loss.
He has previously faced suspensions for unsportsmanlike conduct for one game during the 2021 playoffs and three games in the 2022 postseason, an increase the league said reflected his "history of unsportsmanlike acts."
Beverley is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after a midseason trade sent him to finish out the one-year deal he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in Milwaukee.
