The Commanders will now hope to make the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner their next starting quarterback as a new era begins in D.C.
Washington has been tied with Daniels for months.
Recent rumors that Daniels was unhappy that the Commanders hosted him during a group meeting he reportedly believed would be a one-on-one led, however, led some fans to question the connection.
Daniels said the day before the draft that he would give his "all" to whichever team drafted him, and would be "100 percent" fine with playing for the Commanders, per Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press.
Daniels began his career with three seasons at Arizona State before transferring to LSU in 2022.
His breakout season came in 2023, when he completed 72.2 percent of his passes for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while recording just four interceptions in 12 games.
The former LSU signal caller finished his final college season by setting an FBS record with a passer rating of 208, including 247 in the fourth quarter.
Daniels also added 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground to finish his career as the first quarterback in NCAA history to record more than 12,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in his college career.
Washington fans will now hope those passing skills will translate to the NFL, where Daniels could get the chance to lead the Commanders to their first playoff berth since 2020.
