Giants' Top 2024 NFL Draft Targets

Joe TanseyApr 24, 2024

The New York Giants' position in the 2024 NFL draft seems to be fairly straightforward.

The NFC East side needs a dynamic wide receiver to work with Daniel Jones and at least one of the top three pass-catchers in the draft class will be available at No. 6.

New York's selection may only depend on which wide receivers are left when it hits the clock on Thursday night.

The decision-making process could be that simple for the Giants, and in fact, they might have the easiest call in the top 10 outside of the Chicago Bears at No. 1.

However, there is a scenario in which the top offensive tackle Joe Alt and a wide receiver are available at No. 6 and that is where things could get interesting.

Malik Nabers

NFL teams can't go wrong with wide receivers from LSU.

Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase are the most-recent examples of LSU stars thriving at the professional ranks.

Malik Nabers has the potential to join Jefferson and Chase as the latest success story at wide receiver to come from the SEC school.

Nabers produced back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns at LSU and scored 14 touchdown as part of an 89-reception season in 2023.

He is everything the Giants could have dreamed of in a No. 1 wide receiver and a player Giants fans are longing for after the failed Kenny Golladay signing.

Bleacher Report's NFL scouting department and The Athletic's Dane Brugler both had Nabers as the fit for the Giants at No. 6.

Nabers seems like a "don't overthink it" pick for a team desperate to land at top-tier pass-catcher.

Rome Odunze

The Giants could be forced with a scenario in which they have to choose between Nabers and Rome Odunze.

Odunze is viewed as the No. 2 wide receiver in the draft class and he could still be available at No. 6 in a few different scenarios.

If the top three picks are quarterbacks and Marvin Harrison Jr. goes at No. 4, the Los Angeles Chargers would be forced to choose between Odunze and Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt.

The top four selections could also be quarterbacks, which would then leave Harrison to the Chargers and Odunze left for the Giants.

Odunze was also a two-time 1,000-yard wide receiver in college and would provide an instant upgrade to an offense in search of a top pass-catcher.

Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt are all nice complementary pieces and they would fit much better in the Giants offense with Nabers or Odunze in the top spot.

Joe Alt

The Giants could be put in a tough spot by the Chargers if the AFC West goes with a wide receiver at No. 5.

That could lead to a decision between Nabers and Alt.

While a new No. 1 wide out is needed, the Giants also had a ton of issues on the offensive line in 2023.

Drafting Alt would allow the Giants to have a potential 10-year professional start opposite Andrew Thomas and provide more protection for Daniel Jones.

The Giants could then attack the wide receiver with the No. 47 or No. 70 pick, or use both of those selections to get back into the first round.

The Giants could also pass on Alt and work on their offensive line issues later in the process, but he at least must be considered if he falls past the top five.
