Jets Rumors: Zach Wilson's Camp Had 'Serious Reservations' About NY Before 2021 Draft
Members of quarterback Zach Wilson's camp "expressed serious reservations" about joining the New York Jets ahead of the 2021 NFL draft, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.
However, Cimini noted that Wilson told them that he would be able to handle playing for the organization.
The 24-year-old's time with the team came to an end on Monday, as he was traded to the Denver Broncos. The Jets attached a 2024 seventh-round pick to Wilson and received a 2024 sixth-round pick from Denver in return (h/t NFL Network's Tom Pelissero).

New York originally selected the former BYU standout with the No. 2 overall pick in 2021. Wilson and new head coach Robert Saleh were expected to help the Jets eventually become competitive in the AFC East following a dismal 2-14 record in 2020.
Instead, the signal-caller has struggled with inconsistency throughout his three years in the NFL. He owns a record of just 12-21 as a starter, completing 57 percent of his throws for 6,293 yards. He's also recorded 23 touchdown passes against 25 interceptions.
Wilson has been benched multiple times throughout his career and has dealt with a poor supporting cast, as he's taken 113 total sacks in 34 games. He's also brought some of the pressure onto himself, staring down receivers on occasion and holding onto the ball too long in the pocket.
With starter Aaron Rodgers expected to return for the 2024 season after an Achilles injury ended his 2023 campaign in Week 1, Jets general manager Joe Douglas told reporters on Feb. 28 that the team gave Wilson's agent permission to seek a trade.
He'll look to get his career back on track in Denver, as his confidence ahead of the 2021 draft didn't translate into success on the field.
