NBA GM Says 2024 Draft Is 'Absolutely Awful,' Doesn't See Single 'Franchise Player'
It's no secret that this year's NBA draft class lacks the talent as past drafts, but one NBA general manager went as far as to say that there are no franchise players in this year's class, per the Field of 68's Jeff Goodman.
"This is an absolutely awful draft," the general manager said. "There's no guy that projects as a franchise player, no one that even stands out as the No. 1 pick. This is the type of draft that gets someone fired if they get the No. 1 pick."
After last year's draft that featured stars like Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller, it's fair to say this year's draft won't have as many potential superstars, but it could produce several starting-caliber players.
Several months away from the draft, there isn't a clear favorite to go first overall, but Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman projects Alexandre Sarr out of France to be the first pick. Sarr, who stands at 7'1", averaged 9.6 points and 1.5 blocks in Australia's National Basketball League last season.
Coming out of the college ranks, Kentucky's Rob Dillingham makes a strong case to be a star in the league. He averaged 15.2 points per game coming off the bench for the Wildcats, and it's always safe to bet on a John Calipari-coached player.
Other college stars like UConn's Donovan Clingan, Tennessee's Dalton Knecht or Duke's Jared McCain could prove that this draft has more to offer than it seems, but we won't have a fair evaluation of the draft class until next season.
