Report: Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney Canceled for Mets' 1st Pitch Ahead of Fight
Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney were scheduled to throw out the first pitch before the Pittsburgh Pirates played the New York Mets at Citi Field, but team officials cancelled the event "because they didn't want to risk an incident on the field," according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.
The pair, who are fighting at the Barclays Center on Saturday night, also scuffled during an appearance at the Empire State Building earlier on Tuesday, per Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post.
Per that report, "the two jawed at one another atop the Manhattan landmark" before a "shirtless Garcia repeatedly asked Haney, 'Who's your punk, bitch?'"
Haney responded with a shove and the two men were separated.
It is not the first confrontation between the pair that just so happened to be filmed (NSFW language):
On Tuesday, however, Garcia did not appreciate the decision from the Mets, lashing out at the team in a profanity-laced rant on social media as he left the ballpark (NSFW language):
He wasn't done there:
Garcia, 25, is 24-1 in his career, with his lone loss coming against Gervonta Davis in April of last year. Haney, also 25, is a perfect 31-0 in his career and is the current WBC super lightweight champion, with that belt on the line Saturday.
It would appear there is no love lost between the two.
"I'm going to beat the f--k out of him, I'm going to annihilate him on Saturday," Haney told reporters Tuesday. "Watch, the world gon' see. Clown, he's still drunk from last night... the world gonna see me expose this dude. This dude's a clown, he's a fraud. He's not the real thing. He don't take this s--t serious, and I'm a student of the game. I'm a true professional and I will show it."
Maybe. What we'll perhaps never know is whether either of them can throw a good pitch.
