Jets 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Roundup of B/R Staff, Kiper and Expert Picks

Joe TanseyApr 15, 2024

The New York Jets are one of the first logical landing spots for Georgia tight end Brock Bowers in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft.

The Jets could use another offensive weapon for Aaron Rodgers to work with and Bowers would be an immediate upgrade over Tyler Conklin at tight end.

New York could land the best player available in Bowers, or it could take the practical route with the No. 10 pick and take an offensive lineman.

NFL draft experts are split on what the Jets' first action should be in the NFL draft, and it has to be the right pick since the AFC East side does not select again until No. 75.

Bleacher Report's NFL scouting staff and Pro Football Focus each have Bowers landing with the Jets at No. 10.

Bowers is the clear No. 1 tight end prospect in the draft class and he would provide an immediate upgrade to the Jets passing attack.

Bowers recorded over 50 receptions and at least 700 receiving yards in each of his three seasons at Georgia. He also caught 26 touchdowns.

He would be the perfect across-the-middle target to complement Garrett Wilson in an offense the Jets hope reaches its full potential under Rodgers in 2024.

The only ways Bowers does not land with the Jets is if he goes in the top nine selections, or New York opts for an offensive lineman instead.

ESPN's Field Yates predicted the Jets would take Washington offensive lineman Troy Fautanu in his latest mock draft with Mel Kiper Jr.

"I thought about Georgia tight end Brock Bowers here after the Jets added Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in free agency, but I wound up landing on Fautanu because of his versatility to potentially play four different spots along the offensive line," Yates wrote.

Adding an offensive lineman, like Fautanu, would be a practical pick by the Jets because of how often their offensive line struggled in front of backup quarterbacks in 2023.

The Jets could feel comfortable with their free-agent additions, but you can never be too sure about protecting your franchise quarterback, especially one in his 40s.

The Jets are one injury away from wishing they selected a top offensive line prospect at No. 10. That is what they have to weigh when deciding between an offensive lineman and Bowers.

Both Yates and B/R's NFL scouting department targeted safety as a position of need the Jets should address in the third round.

B/R's staff predicted Georgia safety Javon Bullard would be the pick at No. 72.

UGA's defense produced a long list of defensive stars in the NFL over the last few years, so that would be a good avenue for the Jets to take.

Yates mocked Washington State safety Jaden Hicks to the Jets at No. 72. He described safety as a "sneaky need" for the team.

The Jets' safety depth chart is not as robust as other positions and they could use a young prospect to shore up the middle in a secondary led by a lockdown cornerback in Sauce Gardner.
