Tiger Woods Talks Career-Worst Masters Score, Injury Struggles After 3rd-Round 82
It was not the best of days for Tiger Woods.
He shot an 82 during Saturday's action at The Masters, which was the worst score he has posted at the legendary tournament.
When asked about the biggest challenges he encountered on the course, Woods said he was unable to overcome a lackluster warmup and admitted that playing 23 holes on Friday took a lot out of him.
"The fact that I was not hitting it very good or putting well," Woods told reporters. "I didn't have a very good warmup session, and I kept it going all day today. Just hit the ball in all the places that I know I shouldn't hit it. And I missed a lot of putts. Easy, makeable putts. I missed a lot of them"
He entered Saturday at one-over and had notably made history by becoming the first player to make the cut 24 consecutive times at the illustrious tournament.
He had notably withdrawn from the only other event he has played in this year, the Genesis Invitational, and withdrew following the second round of The Masters in 2023 after making the cut successfully.
He acknowledged that a lack of meaningful play likely impacted his performance and that being more in sync could have helped him flip some results.
"I wouldn't say necessarily mental reps," Woods told reporters. "It's just that I haven't competed and played much. When I had chances to get it flipped around and when I made that putt at 5, I promptly three-putted 6 and flubbed a chip at 7 and just got it going the wrong way. When I had opportunities to flip it, I didn't."
He parred the first three holes before hitting a bogey on the fourth hole. He would notch a birdie on the fifth hole, but it was all downhill from there. He finished with a 42 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine to get to that final score, with double bogeys on hole seven and hole eight really setting him back.
Despite the struggles, he said he was planning to finish the tournament on Sunday.
Woods is set to tee off at 12:45 Sunday.
