Masters 2024: Updated Predictions for Top Prize Money for Day 3
Saturday at the Masters should be the best day of the tournament.
Bryson DeChambeau, Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler enter the third round tied for the lead at six-under.
The much calmer conditions at Augusta National Golf Club could allow one of those players to break 10-under at any point of the round.
The favorable conditions also set up for some low scores throughout the leaderboard and that could result in a star-studded leaderboard going into Sunday's final round.
Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler Pull Away From Max Homa
1 of 3
DeChambeau and Scheffler have one thing in common that could help them gain separation from Homa on Saturday.
Both golfers are major champions and experienced what needs to be done on the weekend to secure those victories.
Homa only has a single top-10 finish at a major from last year's Open Championship.
Home played two terrific rounds of golf at Augusta, but the pressure of the weekend could be his downfall.
DeChambeau and Scheffler may not be perfect either. After all, DeChambeau owns a single weekend round in the 60s in three made cuts at Augusta.
But DeChambeau's major-winning experience could help with whatever pressure he faces and that could result in a final pairing on Sunday with Scheffler, whose 72 on Friday was his worst score of the season.
Scheffler is expected to bounce back with yet another round in the 60s that forces the field to keep pace with him.
Brooks Koepka Makes Surge Up Leaderboard
2 of 3
Brooks Koepka had a rather anonymous start to the Masters.
The five-time major champion sits at two-over following an up-and-down 73 on Friday.
Koepka likely is not in contention for the victory at eight shots back, but he could thrust himself into the top 10 by the end of Saturday.
Koepka is one of the best major-tournament players in the field and he will not go down without a fight.
He needs to cut down on the bogeys to make the move into the top 10. He had three on Thursday and Friday plus a double bogey on No. 12 in the second round.
The calmer conditions could benefit someone like Koepka most who had a rough first two days but can now thrive in sunshine and light wind with no pressure on him.
Lowest Round of Tournament Shot on Saturday
3 of 3
DeChambeau's first-round 65 was the best score through two rounds.
Seven players shot in the 60s on Thursday and Ludvid Aberg was the only player in the 60s on Friday.
The lack of wind and abundance of sunshine should allow someone to turn in the low round of the tournament on Saturday.
The leaders may not hit that milestone because of the pressure on them, but someone further down the field could card the low score.
Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy could be perfect candidates for that role. Both golfers barely made the cut on Friday and need a bounce-back round on Saturday.
Neither player is in contention for the green jacket anymore, but a low round on Saturday could at least give them a chance to finish in the top 10 and start later on Sunday.
