Prospects for Jets to Avoid in 2024 NFL Draft
The New York Jets have to land a star with the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
New York is under pressure to add a key piece to provide more support for Aaron Rodgers in the one healthy year the franchise may have with him.
The Jets do not have a large parcel of draft picks either so they must nail the No. 10 pick to avoid messing up their entire selection process.
Robert Saleh's team is likely targeting an offensive lineman or wide receiver to help Rodgers. It has to find the perfect complement for the 40-year-old quarterback, which means even the slightest qualities they do not like could rule them out on a player.
Taliese Fuaga

The Jets must land the perfect offensive lineman for their offensive philosophy if they go that direction at No. 10.
Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga and Penn State's Olu Fashanu are the most likely offensive tackle prospects available to the AFC East side.
Fauga grades as a better run blocker, while Fashanu is the better pass blocker.
Pro Football Focus noted that it gave Fuaga a 90.3 run-blocking grade, which was four points higher than any other college football tackle.
The Jets will run the ball a good amount with Breece Hall, but if Rodgers is healthy, they need linemen who excel in pass protection.
Fashanu excels in pass protection, as PFF noted in the site's latest mock draft.
"While Olu Fashanu isn't the strongest run blocker, you'd be hard-pressed to find too many tackles as promising as him in pass protection. His 84.4 grade on true pass sets since 2022 ranked in the 93rd percentile among FBS tackles."
The Jets should value pass protection over run blocking, and if both offensive linemen are there at No. 10, Fashanu should be the pick because of that.
Michael Penix Jr. or Bo Nix

It's very obvious to state the Jets do not need a quarterback in the first round.
However, there is a scenario in which a quarterback could be tempting to the Jets to plan for the post-Rodgers era.
The Jets reside in the spot where Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix could be considered as first-round selections.
If the Jets do not like any of the prospects at No. 10, they could even trade down, collect some picks and land a quarterback in the middle of the first round.
The future is not what the Jets are worried about, even if they are still haunted by the struggles of their backup quarterbacks in 2023.
Penix and Nix are also two of the oldest quarterbacks in the draft. Each player transferred to the Pac-12 after multiple years as a starter elsewhere.
Keeping either player behind Rodgers for at least one year would limit the window either player has in the NFL. They are both built to play now, and even in the most extreme scenarios, the Jets should avoid them.
Any Defensive Player in the First Round
3 of 3
The Jets have too many offensive needs to consider selecting a defensive player at No. 10.
The AFC East side can target an offensive lineman, wide receiver, or even tight end Brock Bowers.
One of those options will be available to the Jets, which takes any defensive players out of the equation.
Cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell would both likely be available at No. 10, but the Jets have Sauce Gardner at that position and more pressing needs elsewhere.
The Jets should choose between Fuaga, Fashanu, Bowers and maybe one of the top three wide receivers depending on how the top nine picks play out.
