WWE WrestleMania History: Most Impressive Stats Throughout PPV's Legacy
An event the magnitude of WrestleMania will always have special records attached, such as the number of wins, losses, and appearances.
They are the statistics used to prop up some stars and make the argument for others' greatness.
WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia will likely rewrite the history books.
Still, ahead of the celebration of four decades of The Showcase of the Immortals, enjoy these impressive stats from the long and illustrious history of the event.
Most Matches and Wins: The Undertaker (27 Matches, 25 Wins)
1 of 5No Superstar has competed in or won as many WrestleMania battles as The Undertaker.
Over his three decades with WWE, The Phenom appeared in 27 matches and won 25, including 21 consecutive.
Those matches were:
- WrestleMania 7 vs. "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka
- WrestleMania 8 vs. Jake "The Snake" Roberts
- WrestleMania 9 vs. Giant Gonzalez
- WrestleMania 11 vs. King Kong Bundy
- WrestleMania 12 vs. Diesel
- WrestleMania 13 vs. Sycho Sid
- WrestleMania 14 vs. Kane
- WrestleMania 15 vs. Big Boss Man
- WrestleMania 17 vs. Triple H
- WrestleMania 18 vs. Ric Flair
- WrestleMania 19 vs. Big Show and A-Train
- WrestleMania 20 vs. Kane
- WrestleMania 21 vs. Randy Orton
- WrestleMania 22 vs. Mark Henry
- WrestleMania 23 vs. Batista
- WrestleMania 24 vs. Edge
- WrestleMania 25 vs. Shawn Michaels
- WrestleMania 26 vs. Shawn Michaels
- WrestleMania 27 vs. Triple H
- WrestleMania 28 vs. Triple H
- WrestleMania 29 vs. CM Punk
- WrestleMania 30 vs. Brock Lesnar (lost)
- WrestleMania 31 vs. Bray Wyatt
- WrestleMania 32 vs. Shane McMahon
- WrestleMania 33 vs. Roman Reigns (lost)
- WrestleMania 34 vs. John Cena
- WrestleMania 36 vs. AJ Styles
No Superstar was more synonymous with the grandest show of the year than The Undertaker's whose annual appearance was as big as, if not more so, than the world title main event of many of those shows.
Wins over Hall of Famers, all-time greats, champions, and some of the biggest and baddest monsters in WWE history helped establish The Deadman as the greatest Superstar in the four decades of WrestleMania.
Only Event with Multiple Locations: WrestleMania 2
2 of 5There is a reason WWE has never attempted to replicate WrestleMania 2 by holding the annual extravaganza from multiple locations.
The 1986 show emanated from Long Island, Chicago, and Los Angeles and featured three main events: Roddy Piper vs. Mr. T in a Boxing Match, a 20-Man Battle Royal that included WWE and NFL stars, and a Steel Cage Match between WWE champion Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy.
From a production standpoint, the show featured several issues and was not the streamlined, seamless presentation of its predecessor.
The in-ring was not there either as everything was cut short or featured some horrendously bad finishes.
Despite its shortcomings, of which there were plenty, the show was an experience in making the sequel bigger than the original. It did not work, thanks in large part to logistical issues and whatnot, but it was proof of Vince McMahon's willingness as a promoter to try everything to establish his creation as the biggest spectacle in the industry.
Most Matches Without A Loss: Rob Van Dam (4-0)
3 of 5
Bianca Belair can join the discussion with a win in her six-woman tag team match with Jade Cargill and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL at WrestleMania 40 but for now, it is Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam who stands atop the mountain as the Superstar with the most WrestleMania matches and no losses.
Mr. PPV kicked off his run on the grand stage in 2002 with a victory over William Regal for the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania 18. He was relegated to a Sunday Night Heat match in 2003 that did not affect his record at the event.
He returned a year later to team with Booker T in a successful defense of the Raw Tag Team Championship in a Fatal 4-Way Match that also included The Dudley Boyz, La Resistance, and the team of Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak at WrestleMania 20, missed the 2005 show due to injury, and won Money in the Bank in 2006 at WrestleMania 22.
His final battle on the grand stage came, appropriately enough, with his ECW original teammates The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, and Sabu as they defeated The New Breed's Elijah Burke, Matt Striker, Marcus Cor Von, and Kevin Thorn.
Belair currently holds victories over Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Asuka in championship encounters.
While her six-woman tag match does not hold the same prestige as those previous encounters, she still has the opportunity to create an unbeaten streak of her own that could, if handled, correctly, make her one of the marquee stars on WrestleMania cards for the foreseeable future.
Most Matches Without a Win: Goldust (7)
4 of 5Goldust is a future Hall of Famer; a trailblazer who ushered in the Attitude Era of WWE programming long before Steve Austin flipped his first middle finger or exclaimed, "Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass!"
He is a legendary competitor whose alter ego, Dustin Rhodes, is still doing extraordinary work for AEW as both an in-ring competitor and coach.
His WrestleMania record, though, is anything but golden.
He has competed at seven Showcases of the Immortals and has not netted a single victory.
Those matches included:
- WrestleMania 12 vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper
- WrestleMania 13 vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley
- WrestleMania 14 with Luna Vachon vs. Marc Mero and Sable
- WrestleMania 15 vs. Road Dogg, Val Venis, and Ken Shamrock
- WrestleMania 18 vs. Maven
- WrestleMania 30: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
- WrestleMania 31: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
It is rather interesting that a character who was so essential to the story of WWE as Goldust has not had a triumphant appearance at the biggest event of the year.
The match with Helmsley at WrestleMania 13, the culmination of a months-long rivalry, feels like it would have been the appropriate time for him to score the victory. Instead, he was shut out and would never really have another match where he could convincingly pick up that elusive win, except the hardcore debacle against Maven in 2002 that ended with Spike Dudley stealing the title and victory.
Most WrestleMania Main Events: Roman Reigns (10)
5 of 5For the ninth and 10th time in his legendary career, Roman Reigns will compete in the main event of WrestleMania on Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.
Just one appearance in a marquee match would have catapulted him past Hulk Hogan for most main events in WrestleMania history. Still, his two set the bar seemingly impossibly high to eclipse.
Those main events include:
- WrestleMania 31 vs. Brock Lesnar
- WrestleMania 32 vs. Triple H
- WrestleMania 33 vs. The Undertaker
- WrestleMania 34 vs. Brock Lesnar
- WrestleMania 37 vs. Edge and Daniel Bryan
- WrestleMania 38 vs. Brock Lesnar
- WrestleMania 39 vs. Cody Rhodes
Reigns also holds the record for the most main events against one Superstar (Lesnar) and his match with Rhodes on Sunday in Philadelphia will be the first rematch in consecutive years since The Rock and John Cena squared off in 2012 and '13.
Combined, Reigns has an 8-2 win-loss record on the grand stage and will have the opportunity to expand it to 10 wins at The Showcase of the Immortals if he can emerge victoriously from his two main events.
Recencyism is prevalent in wrestling and pop culture. Still, there is an argument to be made that The Tribal Chief is quickly establishing himself as one of the greatest Superstars to set foot on the industry's grandest stage.
