NFL Rumors: Stefon Diggs, Texans Rework Contract After Trade; Will Be FA in 2025
The Houston Texans have reworked the contract of star wide receiver Stefon Diggs after they acquired him in a trade with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Per Schefter, the Texans removed the final three years on Diggs' current contract, which will allow him to become a free agent after the 2024 season. Houston also took his $3.5 million in guaranteed money in 2025 and moved it up to 2024, giving him a guaranteed total of $22.52 million in 2024.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, it was a "mutual decision" between Diggs and the Texans to agree on a one-year deal.
Diggs was originally under contract through 2027 after signing a four-year, $96 million extension with the Bills in 2022 that included $70 million guaranteed (via Spotrac). Instead, he'll hit free agency in 2025 after Houston gave up a 2025 second-round pick for him. The Texans also received a 2024 sixth-round selection and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Bills in addition to Diggs.
Schefter noted that Diggs now has "added incentive to give the Texans the best version of himself" in 2024 and potentially secure another long-term contract during the 2025 offseason.
The 30-year-old hauled in 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns last season, but he tailed off toward the end of the year. The four-time Pro Bowl wideout caught only three passes for 21 yards in the Bills' divisional-round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, he'll have a chance to bet on himself and attempt to thrive on a Texans team that's coming off a surprising appearance in the divisional round of the playoffs during the first year with head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud. Houston had the NFL's seventh-ranked passing offense during the regular season, while Stroud earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Diggs will look to stand out as part of a talented wide receiver group that includes Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Noah Brown.
