NFL Exec Calls NC State's DJ Burns Jr. an 'Interesting' Prospect Ahead of 2024 Draft

NC State forward DJ Burns Jr. has turned heads during the team's run to the Final Four, so much so that some could see him be successful in another sport.

An NFL executive discussed the possibility of Burns making the transition to football with Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team and said he has the intangibles that could make it worth considering ahead of the 2024 NFL draft.

"The scout in me sees stuff with him when you watch him play basketball that makes you think, 'Wow he would be an interesting project if he wanted to try football,'" the exec said. "The footwork and lateral agility especially is intriguing."

Listed at 6'9" and 275 pounds, Burns has become one of the stars of March Madness thanks to his throwback style of play. He has been dominant in the post, and he dropped 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting to lead the Wolfpack to an upset win over Duke in the Elite 8.

The exec added that it wouldn't be easy for Burns to make it onto an NFL roster, but he has a legit chance thanks to his size and skills.

"At this point in the offseason where rosters are at 90 players, there would surely be a team that would be willing to put him on the roster and see where that takes them. Heck, a team put Tim Tebow back on a roster a few years ago to try him as a tight end," the exec said. "Now, if you're asking me if he can make a 53-man roster, that's an entirely different question. So many things would have to go right for that to happen, but his frame and body type would be ideal."
