Lakers' Gabe Vincent Talks Return from Knee Injury Following LeBron James' Comments
After Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said point guard Gabe Vincent "needs to take his time" working his way back from a knee injury, Vincent gave his thoughts on his return after he was upgraded to questionable before Sunday's game against the Brooklyn Nets.
"I wouldn't step on that court if I didn't feel like I could help my team win games," Vincent said, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "So whatever the role may be, whatever the minutes may be, that's not for me to decide."
Vincent hasn't suited up for Los Angeles since Dec. 20, undergoing knee surgery on Dec. 27 that has kept him out most of the season. Vincent joined the team on their current road trip and is now available to make his return.
As Vincent said, that return comes now that he feels he can contribute.
He has played just five games this season—he played in each of the first four games but did not play again until Dec. 20, which was his most recent appearance. In his limited games, he has put up 5.4 points per game.
Vincent joined the Lakers this season after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Miami Heat. Last year in Miami, he put up a career-high 9.4 points per game during the regular season before improving his scoring average to 12.7 points per game in the playoffs.
He proved to be a vital piece for the Heat in the playoffs last season, putting up a career-high 29 points against the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Now prepared for a comeback, Vincent isn't looking to help the Lakers surge to a big postseason run.
