Report: Jason Kelce Pursued by ESPN for MNF; Larry Fitzgerald's Future 'in Limbo'
ESPN is reportedly planning on making some changes to its Monday Night Football pregame lineup.
According to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, ESPN is "aggressively pursuing" retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce for a broadcasting role on Monday Night Countdown. Meanwhile, the status of Hall-of-Fame receiver Larry Fitzgerald's part-time role is "in limbo."
Marchand noted that ESPN is not alone in its pursuit of Kelce, as NBC, CBS and Amazon Prime Video "all have interest" in him. The seven-time Pro Bowler is known for his colorful personality, and he already has experience in the broadcasting realm as the co-host of the New Heights podcast alongside his brother, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.
It was just a year ago that ESPN shook up its team for Monday Night Countdown. Following longtime host Suzy Kolber's departure as part of the company's extensive layoffs in June, Scott Van Pelt was tabbed as the host.
Fitzgerald appeared on about one-third of the shows during the 2023 season. His contract expired in February and has not been renewed yet, as ESPN reportedly informed him that it wants to see how the rest of the pregame lineup takes shape before making a decision on a new deal for him.
In addition to Fitzgerald's questionable status, Marchand also reported that Robert Griffin III's "spot is in jeopardy." Full-time analysts Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark "are expected to return" alongside Van Pelt, as is feature reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck.
ESPN has also reportedly been pursuing former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for a role, but Marchand reported the 71-year-old "has told networks he is disinclined to be part of a regular studio show."
