If Wilson were to return for his senior season, the Hokies would be strong contenders to win the ACC. They would've won this year, but the Hokies had a hard time beating the Clemson Tigers.
Quarterback Logan Thomas will be much improved next season, but without Wilson behind him, there would be much more pressure on him to win.
Projected as the No. 3 running back for the 2012 NFL draft, Wilson is expected to be taken by the third round at the latest.
Bleacher Report's NFL draft guru Matt Miller was asked on Twitter where he sees Wilson going.
In Virginia Tech's 23-20 overtime loss in the Sugar Bowl to the Michigan Wolverines, Wilson was kept in check for a good portion of the game, but he was able to show what he could do in the open space.
Once Wilson turned the corner on a few plays, he was hard to take down. His effort of fighting for more yards and making defenders miss did not go unnoticed by NFL scouts.
Choosing to hold a press conference as opposed to just telling the beat writer right away could be an indication Wilson will go pro.
His ceiling is high right now, and oftentimes that means a player will leave early. Plus, the career of a running back in the NFL isn't extremely long these days, and it could end a moments notice. One injury is all it takes to ruin a career.
If Wilson believes he's done all he can at Virginia Tech, then going pro is the right move. It won't be long before we know his answer, and the decision will have a major impact on how the Hokies fare for 2012.
