Bargain Contracts Raiders Must Consider in 2024 NFL Free Agency

Alex BallentineMar 20, 2024

The Las Vegas Raiders should feel good about what they've done in free agency so far, but it isn't likely that they are done.

The Raiders may have lost Josh Jacobs, but they addressed a major need with an excellent player when they signed Christian Wilkins. They also found a stop-gap answer at quarterback in Gardner Minshew II. He should give them a reasonable starter who buys more time to find and develop a long-term solution.

Despite spending real money on Wilkins and Minshew, the Raiders still have plenty of budget left to make another signing or two. The Raiders have $29.4 million in cap space, which is enough to remain a competitive option for some players in free agency's second wave.

With some holes left on the roster and some free agent dollars still burning a hole in the Raiders' pocket, here's a look at three contracts the Raiders should consider offering.

CB Tre'Davious White

The Raiders cornerbacks were playing well over the last half of the season. The improved play from Amik Robertson and Jack Jones were a big reason the defense was successful once Antonio Pierce took over as head coach.

However, Robertson left for the Detroit Lions in free agency and Jones' small sample size isn't enough to just assume he will continue to be a starting-caliber player in the Raiders defense.

At least, it shouldn't be enough to keep the Raiders from adding another player who could start on the outside.

Tre'Davious White should be a consideration. Mike Garofolo of NFL Media reported that the cornerback was visiting the Rams and Raiders this week.

White was an All-Pro player in 2019 and 2020 but injuries have kept him from playing at that level since. He has played in just 10 games over the last two seasons and is recovering from torn Achilles that ended his 2023 season.

Those injuries are likely to shrink White's market and force him to play on a cheap contract in 2024. However, that could give the Raiders the opportunity to add a talented player with something to prove at an affordable rate.

Proposed Contract: One-year, $5 million

OT Chris Hubbard

The Raiders watched both Jermaine Eluemunor and Brandon Parker sign elsewhere. Eluemunor was the starting right tackle last season but will now be a New York Giant. Parker had become a reserve there. Now he's a San Francisco 49er.

That leaves Thayer Munford as the last man standing at right tackle.

The Raiders also haven't re-signed Greg Van Roten so the right guard spot is wide open too. It wouldn't be wise for general manager Tom Telesco to go in the draft searching for two offensive line starters.

If they are going to rely on Munford to take over, they need a veteran backup plan.

Chris Hubbard can be that backup plan. He started at right tackle for the Titans this season before injuries took him out of the lineup. He was a decent starter, earning a 69.0 grade with four sacks allowed and no penalties.

Hubbard isn't an exciting option but he's an experienced one. He's made 58 starts across a 10-year career with the Steelers, Browns and Titans.

Proposed Contract: One-year, $2 million

OG Mark Glowinski

As previously mentioned, the Raiders still haven't re-signed Greg Van Roten. The 34-year-old played well as the team's starting right guard, but he is 34 and it's hard to trust that he'll continue to play at that level.

If that's the concern, the Raiders should still be in the market for a veteran guard who could at least serve as the backup option for Dylan Parham and a potential draft pick.

Mark Glowinski would be a good candidate for the assignment. The 31-year-old made six starts for the New York Giants last season. He has 96 starts in nine seasons with the Seahawks, Colts and Giants.

His pass protection is a little scary. He gave up six sacks, per PFF last season. But the Raiders wouldn't be signing him to be the starter.

The ideal scenario would be bringing back Van Roten on a short deal, but that hasn't happened yet so we will assume that isn't on the table for now. If that's the case then Glowinski might be the next best option.

Proposed Contract: One-year, $2.5 million
