Orange Bowl Mascot Video: Watch Mountaineers Clobber Obie in TD Aftermath
Never before in the history of sport has a mascot so perfectly embodied the mood of the actual football game itself, so let's give credit to Orange Bowl mascot Obie.
This mascot apparently takes it's job very seriously. Either that, or West Virginia safety Darwin Cook really hates oranges.
This game was a beatdown of epic proportions, with the Mountaineers coming out on the winning end over Clemson 70-33.
Quarterback Geno Smith tied a bowl game record with six touchdown passes, and the Mountaineers offense as a whole set a bowl scoring record.
While West Virginia's offense may have been prolific, it will be a defensive play that will be remembered as the most epic moment of this game, especially for fans of orange juice.
Cook returned a Clemson fumble for 99 yards in what many consider to be the pivotal moment of the game.
Beating down on Clemson apparently wasn't enough for him, though, so he set his sights on Obie.
Defender and orange collided in what can only be described as a meeting of fate.
It was a moment where oranges and mascots alike could have only watched in stunned silence as their colleague was clobbered onto the turf.
What many don't know, though, is that oranges are highly resilient bunch.
Add that to the fact that mascots are used to being beat up, kicked by little children, heckled by fans and going through just about every other monstrosity that can happen at a sporting event, and you've created one tough combo.
Cook's tackle was a good one, but it wasn't enough to shake Obie.
Long live the king of the oranges.
