Caitlin Clark Beat Reporter Assigned by ESPN for Iowa's WCBB NCAA Tournament Run

Erin WalshMar 16, 2024

The hype surrounding Iowa women's basketball star Caitlin Clark is so great that ESPN is assigning a reporter dedicated to covering her NCAA Tournament run with the Hawkeyes.

ESPN's Holly Rowe has been tabbed as the reporter covering all things related to Clark, according to The Athletic's Richard Deitsch. She will cover Iowa's opening game in Iowa City and the team's second-round matchup, providing it doesn't suffer a historic upset in the opener.

Rowe will also serve as a sideline reporter for Iowa's opening-round NCAA games, according to Deitsch. Those are the only matchups that currently have a sideline reporter assigned to them before the third round.

Rowe said of the opportunity:

"I am honored to say that I am the Caitlin Clark reporter. We have had a presence on the ground covering the special moments with Caitlin this year and I have been at every one of her games where she set a record. I see it as an extension of the dedicated coverage we have had with Caitlin all year. I think there is an intrigue and appetite for all things Caitlin. I can't tell you how many NBA coaches and players have asked me about Clark this year. (Rowe works as an analyst for the Utah Jazz in addition to her ESPN duties.) For instance, I just had a long conversation with Steph Curry after one of his games in Utah where we talked about her."

Clark, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, has put together a legendary college career with the Hawkeyes—All she's missing is an NCAA title.

The 22-year-old is the NCAA's all-time leading scorer, men's or women's, and is a three-time All American. She has won the Wooden Award, Naismith Award, two Big Ten Player of the Year awards and a Big Ten tournament MVP, among other honors.

Clark enters the NCAA Tournament averaging 31.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists in 33 games while shooting 46.0 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from deep.

Iowa is expected to draw a No. 1 seed on Selection Sunday when the tournament bracket is released, and Clark will be hoping to add a championship to cap off her historic collegiate career before making the jump to the WNBA.
