Rams' Updated Depth Chart After Jimmy Garoppolo's Rumored Contract in NFL Free Agency
The Los Angeles Rams signed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year deal on Friday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Although he'll serve a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy, Garoppolo will back up Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles.
Here's a look at the Rams' updated offensive skill position depth chart after signing the veteran signal-caller.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
- QB: Matthew Stafford, Jimmy Garoppolo, Stetson Bennett, Dresser Winn
- RB: Kyren Williams, Ronnie Rivers, Zach Evans
- WR: Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek, Xavier Smith
- TE: Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, Hunter Long
The veteran passer will be joining the fourth organization of his career since he entered the NFL in 2014. Garoppolo signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as a free agent in 2023, inking a massive three-year deal worth $72.75 million.
However, his struggles during the ensuing season combined with his large contract resulted in the Raiders releasing him at the start of the new league year in 2024.
Garoppolo appeared in seven games during his 2023 campaign, making six starts. He finished the year with 1,205 passing yards, tossing seven touchdowns compared to nine interceptions. Garoppolo was ultimately benched after the organization fired former head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler in the middle of the year, as rookie Aidan O'Connell earned the starting job to close out the season.
The 32-year-old will remain a backup on the Rams, as the team's lack of a consistent option behind Stafford in 2023 was apparent. When the Super Bowl-winning passer missed a Week 9 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles was only able to score three points in a defeat with Brett Rypien under center.
While his 2023 campaign was one to forget, Garoppolo is still an important depth piece for the Rams and has six playoff starts under his belt. That's especially valuable for a team that is attempting to return to the postseason in 2024 and build upon last season's wild card exit.
