NFL Rumors: Ravens FA Jadeveon Clowney to Visit Jets after Panthers Meeting

Doric SamMar 14, 2024

After meeting with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, veteran linebacker Jadeveon Clowney reportedly will continue exploring other potential landing spots.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Clowney is set to meet with the New York Jets next week and he "is currently slated to explore multiple options before making a decision on where he will play in 2024."

The No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft, Clowney spent the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens and proved he's still as good as ever. He appeared in all 17 games and tied his career-high with 9.5 sacks while adding 43 total tackles, four passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

The Jets are in need of a pass-rusher after their sack leader Bryce Huff departed in free agency to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The former undrafted free agent had a breakout 2023 campaign with 10 sacks.

While the Jets have 2023 No. 15 pick Will McDonald waiting in the wings for more playing time, adding a veteran like Clowney will help mitigate the loss of Huff. However, the pass-rusher market is a competitive one.

The Athletic's Joseph Person reported that the Panthers signed former Minnesota Vikings edge rusher D.J. Wonnum to a two-year, $12.5 million contract after meeting with him on Thursday. In addition to Clowney leaving his visit without a deal, defensive end Chase Young did the same and is slated to meet with the New Orleans Saints on Friday.

Person noted that Carolina "would still like to double down at the position" despite landing Wonnum already. Clowney is native to the Charlotte area, so signing with the Panthers likely remains on the table.
