Dončić Injury Concerns Mavs Fans as Triple-Double Streak Ends vs. Curry-less Warriors
The Dallas Mavericks beat the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, 109-99, winning their fourth straight game and improving to 38-28 on the season.
But the bigger story on the night was Luka Dončić leaving the game in the fourth quarter with left hamstring soreness and not returning, ending his 20-point triple-double streak at seven games.
That understandably had Mavs' fans worried after the game:
The Dallas superstar still managed 21 points and nine assists in the win, though he shot just 7-of-18 from the field and had six turnovers.
It wasn't a pretty game in general—the two teams combined for 31 turnovers and Dallas shot just 6-of-27 from three (22.2 percent), though still managed to win.
Jonathan Kuminga led all scorers with 27 points, while Kyrie Irving paced the Mavericks (23 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds).
The loss dropped the Warriors to 34-31 on the season, though it wasn't a shocking result without Stephen Curry or Draymond Green in the lineup.
The Mavericks, meanwhile face the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, and Dončić's status for that game is very much in question. The Mavericks need every win they can cobble together—the team is now just a half-game behind the Phoenix Suns for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, which would allow them to avoid the Play-In Tournament and qualify directly for the postseason.
Any long-term Dončić injury would likely extinguish their hopes of capturing that seed. With just 16 games remaining, the Mavericks are running out of time to climb the standings.
