Packers Rumors: Keisean Nixon Agrees to 3-Year, $18M Contract to Return in NFL FA
The Green Bay Packers re-signed nickel cornerback and return specialist Keisean Nixon to a three-year, $18 million deal that can reach $19.2 million, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The 26-year-old is a two-time first-team All-Pro selection as a kick returner and has led the NFL in kick-return yardage in each of the past two seasons.
Nixon posted the following on social media Tuesday:
He's made less of an impact defensively in his five-year career between the Packers and Las Vegas Raiders, though he has notched an interception in each of the past two seasons and had six passes defensed and 80 tackles in 13 starts last season.
At the money he's making, the Packers clearly are bringing him back to play a regular role defensively alongside his returning chops.
The Packers have been busy this offseason.
The team made the shocking move to sign Josh Jacobs, one of the top running backs on the market, before releasing long-time halfback Aaron Jones. Veteran tackle David Bakhtiari was released, ending an excellent but injury-plagued tenure in Green Bay.
Guard Jon Runyan Jr. departed in free agency, signing with the New York Giants, but the Packers signed safety Xavier McKinney away from New York. Darnell Savage Jr. also departed the team as a free agent, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After last season's surprise run to the NFC Divisional Round and the ascendance of quarterback Jordan Love in the second half of the season—Green Bay finished the regular season on a 7-3 tear, and Love threw 21 touchdowns and just three interceptions in that span—the Packers look like a rising threat in an already strong NFC.
The team has made strong moves this offseason in an effort to bolster its young core. But bringing back familiar faces like Nixon will help in those efforts, especially if he can take a positive step on the defensive side of the ball.
