Draymond Green Says Warriors Would've Won NBA Title With LeBron James Trade
Draymond Green believes that the Golden State Warriors would have won the NBA Finals if the front office traded for superstar LeBron James.
In an appearance on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Green claimed that the Warriors would be champions in they were able to acquire the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported on Feb. 14 that Golden State attempted to trade for James ahead of the Feb. 8 deadline, although the front office's bid was unsuccessful.
Per Wojnarowski and Shelburne, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss told Warriors owner Joe Lacob that Los Angeles had "no desire" to trade James. While the 39-year-old may seek a change of scenery in the future, his comments after the deadline made it clear that he's perfectly content in the purple and gold for now.
"I am a Laker and I'm happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way," James said on Feb. 18, via ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "But I don't have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I'll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It's a great organization, so many greats. But we'll see."
The potential pairing of Stephen Curry and James would represent two of the NBA's all-time greats teaming up, as the pair of MVPs faced off in the NBA Finals on four separate occasions throughout the past decade.
A blockbuster trade between the two organizations may not occur anytime soon, as both teams have been successful after struggling prior to the trade deadline. The Warriors have won 12 of their past 15 games, while the Lakers own a record of 7-3 in their past 10 contests.
James has remained one of the league's best players in the 2023-24 season, averaging 25.2 points and 7.9 assists per game on 52.6/40.8/73.6 shooting splits.
