Bears' DJ Moore: Marvin Harrison Jr. Would Be 'a Choice of Mine' in 2024 NFL Draft

Scott PolacekFeb 27, 2024

What the Chicago Bears will do with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft remains one of the biggest talking points of the offseason, but wide receiver DJ Moore would like his team to "add another receiver."

The best receiver in the draft, to be clear.

"I know Marvin [Harrison Jr.], so that would be a choice of mine," Moore said during an appearance on NFL Total Access (h/t Paul Harvey of Saturday Tradition).

It should be noted that Moore did not specifically advocate for the Bears to select the Ohio State product with the No. 1 overall pick. While Harrison will likely go in the top four, Chicago could, in theory, trade with a team such as the Washington Commanders and select the wide receiver with the No. 2 pick while receiving a haul in return.

Washington has the No. 2 pick and, in such a hypothetical, would surely have its eyes on USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the top selection.

The Bears and Moore are no strangers to such a move, as Chicago traded the No. 1 pick of the 2023 NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers so the NFC South team could select Alabama's Bryce Young.

Moore, as well as draft capital that included the pick that turned out to be this year's No. 1 choice, came back to the Bears.

If the Commanders see Williams as a can't-miss prospect, they would likely be willing to trade significant draft capital and perhaps a player or two just to move up one pick. And the Bears could then use that pick to choose Harrison and add him to an offense that already features weapons in Moore and tight end Cole Kmet.

That would, of course, mean Chicago is content to continue building around Justin Fields instead of switching directions at the quarterback position with Williams.

Moore has not hesitated to publicly advocate for Fields on multiple occasions, which isn't surprising considering he posted career-high numbers in catches (96), receiving yards (1,364) and touchdown catches (eight) in his first season with the Bears' signal-caller.

Regardless of whether Chicago selects Williams or continues to roll with Fields, Moore is correct in his assessment that the team needs another wide receiver.

No other wide receiver on the roster even reached the 450-yard mark last season, and Darnell Mooney is a free agent who could sign elsewhere this offseason. Fields or Williams would be much better positioned for success in 2024 and beyond if there was another game-changing wide receiver to line up alongside the No. 1 option.

Harrison would surely fit the bill as someone who was a Heisman Trophy finalist who can make any catch. But the Bears may also have other options in LSU's Malik Nabers or Washington's Rome Odunze with the No. 9 overall pick.

Any of them would make Chicago much more dangerous in the NFC North in 2024.
