MLB Rumors: Jordan Montgomery, Red Sox Met Amid Contract Buzz in 2024 Free Agency
The Boston Red Sox reportedly had a meeting with free-agent pitcher Jordan Montgomery and agent Scott Boras.
Buster Olney of ESPN reported the two sides met "recently" over Zoom, while longtime MLB reporter Peter Gammons spoke to a National League executive who believes the deal may get done.
"We hear the Red Sox and Scott Boras had a good meeting recently and may get some deal eventually done on Jordan Montgomery," the exec said.

Montgomery split the 2023 season with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. His midseason acquisition proved to be vital for the Rangers' World Series run, as Montgomery went 3-1 in five postseason starts.
Montgomery has been a steady rotation hand throughout his MLB career. He's posted at least 30 starts each of the last three seasons and has put up a combined 38-34 record with a 3.68 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over his career.
Boras hoped to parlay Montgomery's strong postseason into a nine-figure contract, but it seems he may have to settle for less. Fellow Boras client Cody Bellinger signed a three-year, $80 million deal with the Chicago Cubs earlier this week after languishing on the open market. Bellinger has player options after the first two seasons of that deal, which gives him some flexibility to make up for the relative lack of guaranteed cash.
Montgomery might find himself in a similar situation, taking on less than expected in terms of long-term security in exchange for potentially re-entering the market when his value peaks. That said, it's hard to expect him to do better than he would coming off a World Series championship.
