Tyreek Hill: Jaylen Waddle Is Dolphins' Future, Fans Wanting to Trade WR Is Ludicrous

In response to recent trade speculation involving Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill offered a ringing endorsement for his fellow wide receiver.

Hill wrote on X that Waddle is "the future" for the Dolphins and called it "ludicrous" for fans of the team to want the 25-year-old traded.

It's not clear that Dolphins fans have been clamoring for a Waddle trade so much as a former team executive decided to throw out a wild idea involving the fourth-year wideout.

On Tuesday's episode of Get Up, ESPN NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum proposed the Dolphins trade Waddle to the Kansas City Chiefs for Trent McDuffie to address their need at cornerback.

Tannenbaum was Miami's executive vice president of football operations from 2015 to '18. He has worked for ESPN since April 2019.

It's true the Dolphins are in a rough spot with the salary cap and will have to make some big decisions this offseason. They currently project to be $51.9 million over the cap, per Pro Football Focus. Only the New Orleans Saints at $83.7 million have more work to do to be cap-compliant.

The Chiefs have a need at wide receiver, but trading McDuffie when he has two more guaranteed years left on a rookie contract with a fifth-year option in 2026 coming off a season in which he was named to the All-Pro first team seems unlikely.

Trading Waddle before June 1 would save the Dolphins $4.4 million against the cap. He is eligible to sign a contract extension this offseason. The team has to decide on his fifth-year option for 2025 by May 2.

This year's draft class is very deep at wide receiver, with 19 pass-catchers ranked inside the top 150 by B/R's Scouting Department. If the Dolphins are confident they could add somebody who can play at a high level right away, it might make it easier to deal Waddle if they want to go that route.

Waddle has been a dynamic playmaker for the Dolphins. He was selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 draft. The Alabama alum has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons and has 19 total touchdowns in 47 career games.
