ESPNU 150: 3 Alabama Recruits Poised for Stardom

Eric BallJan 4, 2012

Alabama is consistently one of the best teams in college football because they churn out talent like no other program in the nation. It’s the NFL of college football at this point.

Coach Nick Saban is dominating the recruiting wars these days and it looks like he has three more monster stars on their way to Tuscaloosa:

No. 9 Eddie Williams-S/ OLB/WR

He was ‘Bama’s first big signee and with good reason. The extremely lanky Williams stands at 6'3", 205 pounds and sports a blazing fast 4.67 40-yard dash. He's one of the best pure athletes in his class which is why nobody’s quite sure what position he will actually play.

He has shown the ability to pulverize opponents with text-book form on his tackles. He's more disciplined than most players of his age and is able to use his anticipation to his advantage in coverage.

Williams’ height combined with his speed make him the ideal receiver. It’s up to Saban to figure out where he should stick this future All-American.

21. Chris Black- WR

Williams may end up being on defense because the Crimson Tide are going to be set at wide receiver with Black. The 5'11", 170-pound stud runs a 4.5 40-yard dash and is impossible to tackle in space.

Obviously, Black isn’t going to beat defenders with his size, but he makes a ton of plays with his elusiveness and ability to shed would-be tacklers.

His has terrific hands and has shown the ability to catch low balls below his waist. His burst is second to none, as is his ability to stop on a dime.

As a returner, he will return at least one punt for a touchdown in college. As long as Black continues to get stronger, there's no reason to believe that he won’t be a big-time contributor from Day 1.

32. Geno Smith- CB

Smith has the same body frame as Black (5'11", 170 pounds) but plays on the other side of the ball.

He has shown impeccable range in his coverage skills, meaning he can cover a ton of ground in a small amount of time. He's able to recover very quickly when beaten and takes superb angles to the ball. He does a great job of keeping his eye on the ball and not losing it once the QB makes the throw.

Once he hits the weights and is able to jam receivers in coverage, you’re looking at the next ‘Dre Kirkpatrick.
