Kevin Durant on Isaiah Stewart-Drew Eubanks Incident: 'Supposed to Be a Brotherhood'
Kevin Durant expressed his disappointment after Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was arrested for allegedly punching Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks before Wednesday's game between the teams.
"Keep the game first. There's a lot of noise," Durant told reporters. "It's unfortunate what happened before the game, it's supposed to be a brotherhood. But I also understand, dudes get into stuff. We try to avoid that in this league, hopefully we can move on from it. We all support Drew."
Stewart was charged with assault after he and Eubanks got into an altercation at the arena. Eubanks told reporters security broke up the argument when Stewart threw a punch.
"Just walking in and words were said and got sucker punched and security stepped in and that was it," Eubanks told reporters.
Phoenix police are investigating the situation, and the NBA released a statement saying it is also conducting an investigation. Eubanks finished with six points and eight rebounds to help lead the Suns to a 116-100 victory, while Stewart sat out with an ankle sprain.
The Suns released a statement calling Stewart's actions "unacceptable" and "unprovoked," according to the Associated Press. Pistons coach Monty Williams said he found the statement irresponsible because an investigation has not been completed.
"The thing is to get all of the information. The NBA will do an investigation," Williams said. "For me to come here and make a statement would be a bit irresponsible. I know the Suns said it was unprovoked; I think that is irresponsible for sure. You really don't know.
"That did not need to happen. There is a time for the information to be gathered, and then you can make a statement."
