Warriors' Draymond Green Responds to Suns' Jusuf Nurkić: 'What an Embarrassment'
Draymond Green and Jusuf Nurkić probably aren't going to be hanging out much off the court once the season ends.
The Golden State Warriors forward replied to the Phoenix Suns big man on his latest episode of The Draymond Green Show (14:20 mark) and didn't exactly hold back. He called Nurkić a "clown" and "little guy" multiple times and was clearly upset with some of his opponent's latest comments.
After Golden State's 113-112 win over Phoenix on Saturday, Nurkić told reporters Green "didn't learn anything" from his suspension and is "going to hit somebody else again. Take back everything I said. He don't deserve a chance."
Green was suspended after hitting Nurkić in the face during a Dec. 12 game.
"Quite frankly, I would love to know why is it only a matter of time before I hit someone else?," Green said on his show. "Because I destroyed him? Because what in that game that happened with me would make you say something like that other than being embarrassed because you're just not good enough? You're not good enough offensively, you had Steph Curry on post-ups and you got nothing."
Green also said Nurkić isn't good enough to do things such as the too-small celebration when he scores and is best known for being traded away from the Denver Nuggets to get out of Nikola Jokić's way.
"What a coward," the four-time champion continued. "You go questioning character about a basketball game that you just lost, that you got destroyed in. The only thing you should talk about is how you got punished.
"Not very surprised that he went to the media and said what he said. Because that's the same guy that laid out on the floor when I made contact with him. Bro, you're 300 pounds. Get up off the floor, bro. If he actually didn't lay out on the floor like that, I actually don't get the suspension that I got, probably. But dude laid out like he was dead. … What an embarrassment. And they expect to win with that guy."
The pair went back and forth on social media as well:
Green was suspended indefinitely following the Dec. 12 incident and was eventually allowed to return after 12 games. It was his second suspension of the season, as he was also forced to sit out five games in November for putting Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert into a headlock during an In-Season Tournament matchup.
The Michigan State product has been no stranger to altercations throughout his career, including when he was infamously suspended during the 2016 NBA Finals and fined for punching then-teammate Jordan Poole ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Yet he was clearly bothered by the suggestion he didn't learn anything from his latest punishment and didn't hesitate to question Nurkić's character or basketball skill.
As for the game, Golden State earned a one-point win thanks to Stephen Curry's three-pointer in the final seconds. Nurkić was relatively quiet and finished with six points and six rebounds, while Green posted 15 points, nine assists and seven boards.
It was the final matchup between the two teams during the regular season, so fans hoping to see another showdown between Green and Nurkić will have to cheer for a postseason series.
