Canelo Álvarez Teases 'Important' Announcement About Boxing Career on Tuesday
Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez is due to make an "important" regarding his boxing career on Tuesday, according to Boxing Scene's Jake Donovan.
The 33-year-old hasn't stepped inside the ring since winning a unanimous decision fight against Jermell Charlo last September.
One obvious assumption is that Álvarez is retiring, if not permanently then at least for a period of a few years given how retirements often don't stick in boxing.

But such a legendary figure may not want the lasting image of his career to be such an easy victory against an overmatched opponent. Not to mention, he didn't sound at the time like somebody who was preparing to wind things down.
The more likely scenario is Álvarez announcing his next fight. He has made competing around Cinco de Mayo an annual tradition, though this would be earlier than he has outlined his spring plans compared to the last two years.
According to Donovan, Álvarez's representatives haven't advanced far enough in negotiations with one potential opponent, Jaime Munguía, to where a full announcement by Tuesday looks plausible.
Maybe we're finally on the road toward getting that long-awaited bout between Canelo and Terence Crawford, or perhaps he pivots in a totally different direction.
Because of how vague the tease for Tuesday is, fans may not want to get their hopes up too much, lest they be disappointed about what this is actually about.
