Patrick Mahomes Shades Doubters After Super Bowl 58 Win: Chiefs are 'Never Underdogs'
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs proved on Sunday why they should never be doubted.
The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium to become the first team since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005 to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles, and Mahomes made it clear after the win that Kansas City should never be considered an underdog.
"Just know that the Kansas City Chiefs are never underdogs," Mahomes said after lifting the Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs were considered betting underdogs to win the Super Bowl after finishing the regular season with an 11-6 record and securing victories over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round and the Baltimore Ravens in the conference championship game.
However, Mahomes proved throughout the playoffs that he's the best quarterback in the NFL and can overcome just about anything when it matters most.
The Chiefs entered halftime of Sunday's game down 10-3 to the 49ers, and after tossing an interception on the first drive of the third quarter, Mahomes orchestrated four straight scoring drives to force overtime.
And after the Kansas City defense held Brock Purdy and the 49ers to just a field goal to open overtime, Mahomes charged back down the field and found Mecole Hardman Jr. for the game-winning touchdown.
Mahomes finished the game having thrown for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, in addition to rushing for 66 yards on nine carries en route to being named the Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his career.
In just six seasons as Kansas City's starting quarterback, Mahomes is a three-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Super Bowl MVP and a two-time NFL MVP, among other accolades.
Given Mahomes' track record, it's highly unlikely he and the Chiefs will be doubted again, especially if Andy Reid returns as head coach next season amid retirement rumors.
Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported Sunday that Reid is more likely to sign an extension than enter retirement, which means he and Mahomes could lead Kansas City to more Super Bowls.
The Chiefs have the second-best odds to win the Super Bowl next season at +650, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. San Francisco currently has the best odds at +550, though those lines will likely shift before Week 1 of the 2024 campaign.
