NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs Felt Very Comfortable Keeping Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen
The Cleveland Cavaliers had a pair of coveted trade pieces in guard Donovan Mitchell and center Jarrett Allen, but they reportedly saw no reason to make a move before Thursday's deadline.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Cavs "felt very comfortable holding firm without adding any pieces either."
The Cavs rank second in the Eastern Conference and improved to 34-16 with Thursday's 118-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Mitchell led the way with a game-high 27 points, while Allen added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Cleveland has now won each of its last eight games, the longest active win streak in the NBA.
The Cavs have endured injuries to key players, as point guard Darius Garland and power forward Evan Mobley both missed extended time this season. Mitchell and Allen helped keep the team afloat in their absences, and now that they're fully healthy, they look like one of the league's elite squads.
Cleveland had a strong season last year, finishing fourth in the East with a 51-31 record. However, the team was disappointingly bounced from the playoffs in the first round by losing to the New York Knicks in five games. It looks like the Cavs are motivated to have a better postseason showing this year, and keeping the band together was the right move to achieve that goal.
The Cavs will go for their ninth straight win when they return to action against the Toronto Raptors (18-33) on Saturday.
