Steve Kerr Feels Warriors 'Can Do Something Special' Without Trade at NBA Deadline
The Golden State Warriors have struggled with consistency all season, but head coach Steve Kerr doesn't think they need a trade ahead of Thursday's deadline to save the season.
"I feel like this group can do something special," he told reporters. "I really do. So if we don't do anything tomorrow, we feel like we have a good group we can push with."
It's not hard to see why Kerr would feel that way.
After all, the Warriors have won three of their last four games and still have one of the best players in NBA history leading the way in Stephen Curry. Draymond Green is also back in the lineup after missing time with multiple suspensions, and players such as Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski have taken notable strides as the season progresses.
In fact, Kuminga has scored at least 20 points in nine of Golden State's last 10 games. He also has two double-doubles in that stretch and has given the team another go-to option alongside Curry.
Andrew Wiggins is also expected to return soon from an ankle injury that has sidelined him, and he and Klay Thompson at least have a track record to fall back on as they look to find more individual consistency down the stretch.
A deep playoff run might not be in the cards for the Warriors, but they could be dangerous in individual series if they reach the postseason.
They are 1.5 games behind the Utah Jazz for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament and are starting to play better basketball.
There is also something to be said about the championship pedigree they bring, as the core of Curry, Thompson, Green and Kerr have been to six of the last nine NBA Finals. It's not exactly surprising a coach who has won at that level still has the confidence things can turn around in 2023-24.
Perhaps a trade would help, but Kerr believes there is enough talent on the roster to make a run.
