LSU vs. Alabama Predictions: Eddie Lacy and Unsung Players Will Break Out

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

You know about Trent Richardson and Tyrann Mathieu. You know about Courtney Upshaw. You know about Rueben Randle.

When Alabama takes on LSU for the National Championship, you know what superstars to pay attention to.

But so often during title games, it's the smaller, lesser-known players that come up big and make the real difference. Here's a look at three guys who could very well play that role on January 9.

Eddie Lacy, Alabama

Sure, he's backing up Trent Richardson, but he'll get his carries. Last time against LSU, Lacy was battling turf toe but still received five carries and managed to rip off a 20-yard carry.

Now that he's healthy and the Crimson Tide will try to control the ball, look for Lacy to get eight to 10 carries.

The sophomore is averaging a stout 7.5 yards per carry this season, with a long of 67. LSU is no North Texas, but don't be surprised if Lacy breaks off a long, important run.

Jordan Jefferson, LSU

Jefferson certainly isn't an unknown, but his ability to throw the ball 20+ times per game is. The only time LSU has really let him go was against Arkansas when he threw 29 times, completing 18 for 208 yards.

It was hardly an inspiring performance.

Last time against Alabama, Jefferson and Jarrett Lee combined for 17 passes. Jefferson will be by himself in this one, and don't be surprised if he lets it ride over 20 times.

The senior certainly isn't the most accurate guy around, but he's going to take a few deep shots. I'm betting he completes a couple of those en route to the best passing game of the season.

Alabama will be so concerned with stopping his legs that he'll have to do well with his arm to win. That's not usual.

Ron Brooks, LSU

The Tiger cornerbacks you'll be hearing about are Tyrann Mathieu and Morris Claiborne, but the No. 3 corner has some talent, too.

Brooks, a senior from Texas, has big-play ability whenever he's on the field. He's often asked to blitz, and as a result is third on the team with 3.5 sacks.

He's also forced two fumbles and picked off two passes to go along with eight pass deflections. He's returned both of those interceptions for touchdowns.

If Brooks is able to get anywhere near the ball, you can bet he'll make a big play. Don't sleep on him.
