Hawks' Clint Capela Out at Least 7-10 Days with Adductor Injury Amid NBA Trade Rumors
Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela has suffered a left adductor strain and will be re-evaluated in seven-to-10 days, per NBA inside Marc Stein.
Capela suffered the injury in Saturday night's overtime win over the Golden State Warriors, where he notched 17 points and 15 rebounds on the night.
Capela, who has started 47 games for the Hawks this season, is putting up 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, shooting an efficient 57.5% from the field.
The injury comes amid trade rumors surrounding the veteran. According to The Athletic's Kelly Iko, Shams Charania and Sam Amick, the Houston Rockets are eyeing a handful of centers, with Capela's name on the list.
"The Rockets, league sources said, are also exploring the center market, looking to bolster their rim protection. According to those sources, Houston is keeping tabs on Utah's Kelly Olynyk, Atlanta's Clint Capela, Chicago's Andre Drummond and Portland's Robert Williams III (who has fans throughout the current coaching staff) among others."
A potential deal with the Rockets would reunite Capela with his former team. Drafted in 2014, Capela spent the first six years of his career in Houston, where he had one of his best seasons in 2018-19, putting up 16.6 points and 12.7 rebounds.
The Rockets are on the cusp of being in the playoff picture, sitting in 11th place in the Western Conference at 23-25, and adding Capela could be the boost they need. Picking up another big man would give them the option to give center Alperen Şengün some relief when he needs it, or to put another big man on the floor alongside Şengün for a bigger lineup.
Regardless of whether Capela is on the move before the Feb. 8 trade deadline, he'll be looking for a speedy return to action.
