Super Bowl Plans Heating Up in Indy: All the Info You Need If Coming to Town
With the NFL playoffs starting last weekend, that means the Super Bowl is just over four weekends away. It will be the first time the Super Bowl will be played in Indianapolis and the buzz is growing by the day here in the capital city of Indiana.
I was very critical of how the city was prepared when the Big Ten Championship football game was here on December 3rd. Everyone said the game was a test to see how prepared the city was to host the big game in February.
I gave the city a failing grade for a few reasons: not being able to get into downtown establishments due to them being at capacity, bars and the championship village running out of beer and out-of-control foot traffic due to no police presence at each stop light.

Now that the plans have been revealed for the Super Bowl, I do think that if you don't mind the crowds, the city will be okay.
Most bars and restaurants will be at capacity, so if you were planning on traveling downtown to take in the atmosphere, be mindful of that. The Super Bowl committee has done a great job of making host cities around Indianapolis become prepared and set up to take on the added visitors.
I recommend partaking in the atmosphere in surrounding towns of Greenwood, Zionsville or Carmel. All areas are part of the celebration sites, and most towns offer free shuttles to and from downtown.
If you do end up going downtown, you can take in the Super Bowl Village that will run from the Indiana Pacers' home arena down Georgia Street to the convention center near Lucas Oil Stadium. There will be tons of entertainment including concerts and a zip line.
The concerts on Georgia Street will be free and there will be two different stages during the week. Acts like Bret Michaels, Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, Edwin McCain, En Vogue, Fuel, LMFAO, OAR and Patti Labelle will be performing on the Verizon Stage.
On the other stage will be more local talent, but both stages will be rocking.
If you prefer indoor activity, try out the NFL Experience in the Convention Center. You can get tickets for $25 bucks.
If you will be in town for the week leading up to the Big Game, tickets are available to attend Media Day and you can also purchase tickets for the stadium tour. I highly recommend doing this.
If you can afford to party with the celebrities, Maxim, Playboy, and Rolling Stone have tickets available to their parties downtown during Super Bowl weekend.
I recommend bringing warm clothes with you to town if you are coming. The last two years, we've had bad ice/snow storms in the weeks during or surrounding Super Bowl week. Let's hope this year will be surprisingly different. It's been pretty warm for the most part this winter so lets keep our fingers crossed.
