There is a new date for the highly anticipated showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

It was revealed Saturday that the bout for the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO heavyweight world titles was rescheduled to take place on May 18:

It was also announced Saturday that Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will square off for the undisputed lightweight title on June 1.

This is not the first time the fight has been rescheduled, as it was pushed back from Dec. 23 to Feb. 17 to allow Fury more time to recover following a closer-than-expected bout against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou even dropped Fury at one point.

As for the latest rescheduling, Queensberry Promotions released a statement on Friday revealing Fury suffered "a freak cut" above his eye during a sparring session that "required urgent medical attention and significant stitching."

Pushing the fight back to May allows him more time to recover.

"I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition," Fury said in the statement. "I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed."

Filip Hrgovic told Mike Coppinger of ESPN he wanted to step in for Fury and fight Usyk on Feb. 17 following the injury. Coppinger even reported such an option was "being explored" before Saturday's announcement.

While that would have been an intriguing matchup, it would not have received as much hype as the one between Fury and Usyk.

Issy Ronald of CNN noted the winner will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis reached such heights in 1999.

Fury is 34-0-1 with 24 knockouts on his legendary resume. His trilogy against Deontay Wilder represented some of the most high-profile boxing in recent years, but the May fight could generate even more excitement.

Usyk is also undefeated at 21-0 with 14 knockouts.

The gold medalist from the 2012 Olympics last fought in August when he defeated Daniel Dubois via knockout and will be looking for a similar result in May.
