Clippers' Paul George Out vs. Kyle Kuzma, Wizards Because of Groin Injury
Los Angeles Clippers star forward Paul George will miss his team's road game against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday with a sore left groin.
George was listed as questionable on the NBA's injury report before being ruled out.
In 43 games, George has averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest for a 30-15 Clippers team that sits fourth in the Western Conference.
George has only missed two other games this season. He sat a Dec. 14 game against the Golden State Warriors due to left hip soreness. An illness kept George out for a Dec. 20 matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.
He also left a Dec. 12 win over the Sacramento Kings with a sore groin.
Per Tomer Azarly of Clutch Points, George has been dealing with a groin issue "over the last week." However, he didn't land on Wednesday's injury report until after morning shootaround in D.C.
Azarly offered more information on the matter.
"Paul George suffered the groin injury in last Sunday's comeback win against the Brooklyn Nets. He subsequently played against the Los Angeles Lakers two nights later without any mention of the injury, but clearly played like he was affected by it. In his postgame press conference after the win, George said he suffered an aggravation of the injury against the Lakers, and wasn't sure if it was going to hold him out of any games."
Without George, the Clippers will roll with a starting lineup featuring James Harden, Terance Mann, Amir Coffey, Kawhi Leonard and Mason Plumlee, who has replaced an injured Ivica Zubac (right calf strain).
George's next opportunity to play will be Friday evening at the Detroit Pistons. The Clips then wrap up their annual Grammy road trip with matchups at the Miami Heat on Sunday and the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
