NFL Rumors: Bobby Slowik, Texans Agree to New Contract amid Seahawks, Commanders Buzz
Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was one of the hottest names on the head coaching market, but he reportedly won't be going anywhere.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Slowik "has agreed to a new deal in Houston within the past few days, one that includes a significant raise."
Breer noted that Slowik "impressed multiple NFL clubs [through] the interview process" before deciding to stay in Houston. He was in the running for the last two remaining head coaching vacancies, those of the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson also informed teams that he's staying in Houston. Johnson had been in the running for some offensive coordinator positions.
Slowik followed DeMeco Ryans from the San Francisco 49ers to Houston when Ryans became head coach of the Texans. Together, they led a swift turnaround that saw the team finish with a 10-7 record and earn its first playoff victory since 2019.
Slowik was instrumental in the development of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who is the presumptive favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year after his stellar season.
The 2023 No. 2 pick threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions in 15 games, proving that he's the franchise cornerstone that Houston has been longing for. Houston's offense averaged 342.4 yards and 22.2 points per game under Slowik's direction.
Now that Slowik is out of the running, the pool of head coaching candidates for the Commanders and Seahawks is dwindling. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson also informed teams that he will be staying put this offseason despite being another popular choice.
