Patrick Mahomes Says Chiefs 'Never Feel Like Underdogs' After AFC Title Game Win
The Kansas City Chiefs came into Sunday's AFC Championship game as underdogs against the Baltimore Ravens, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes said the team didn't have that mentality.
"It's been a heck of year," Mahomes said. "We've been underdogs the last few games, but we never feel like underdogs. We've got a lot of guys on this team who know how to win. When the playoffs came around, we knew we were going to make it happen. Now we're in the Super Bowl and the jobs not done. We've got to go out there to Vegas and play a great team and see if we can go out there and get the Super Bowl."

The Chiefs had plenty of doubters as they had to play on the road for both the divisional round and the AFC Championship, but Mahomes and Kansas City once again proved those doubters wrong. Now the Chiefs are on their way to their fourth Super Bowl in five years.
Mahomes was outstanding in Sunday's game, just as he has been in just about every game of his postseason career. He threw for 241 yards and a touchdown on an efficient 30-of-39. His wingman, veteran tight end Travis Kelce, also had a huge game with 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Now, Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs will await the winner of Sunday's NFC Championship game between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes has a pair of Super Bowl rings already, but he's looking to add to the collection in a few weeks.
The 2023 season hasn't seen the Chiefs dominate the way fans have grown accustomed to, but they battled through adversity to put themselves in a good position heading into the playoffs. From there, they handled the Miami Dolphins at home, won a tight one on the road against the Bills and took care of the Ravens on Sunday.
Whether or not Mahomes and the Chiefs are the betting favorites in the Super Bowl, they certainly won't feel like the underdogs.
