Seahawks Rumors: Rams' Raheem Morris to Interview for HC Job After Commanders Meeting

Andrew PetersJan 25, 2024

Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is expected to interview for the Seattle Seahawks head coaching position on Friday, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

According to Fowler, the interview comes after Morris first interviewed for the Washington Commanders' head coaching job on Wednesday.

Morris, who just wrapped up his third season with Los Angeles, also interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons on Jan. 20. Morris served as the Falcons' interim head coach for 11 games in 2020 before joining the Rams' staff.

Morris helped lead the Rams' defense to a top-10 ranking in both opponent points per game and yards per game and the fifth-best ranking in opponent yards per play. He and the Rams fell just short of upsetting the Detroit Lions in the wild-card round of the NFL Playoffs.

In his first year as defensive coordinator, Morris helped lead the Rams to a Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Los Angeles struggled in 2022 but bounced back to reach the playoffs this season. Now, it seems Morris could be on his way out of Los Angeles.

Morris has history with both the Falcons and the Commanders. He was Washington's defensive backs coach from 2012 to 2014 before joining Atlanta's staff from 2015 to 2020, serving in several different capacities.

His only head coaching experience—aside from his interim role with Atlanta—came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011, though he never saw much success, posting just one winning season and missing the playoffs all three years.

He'll be looking for more success this time around should he assume head coaching duties.

The Commanders are looking to fill their vacancy after firing Ron Rivera while the Falcons are looking for a replacement for Arthur Smith, who they fired following the end of the season.

Seattle is looking to replace Pete Carroll, who spent 14 seasons at the helm. Though he is no longer the head coach, Carroll is expected to remain with the team in an advisory role. If Morris takes over in Seattle, he will certainly have big shoes to fill.
