Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Heart Hands Celebration Was for Bills Fans, Not Taylor Swift

Adam WellsJan 24, 2024

Travis Kelce's heart hands touchdown celebration in the Kansas City Chiefs' 27-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round on Sunday wasn't directed at Taylor Swift.

On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment (h/t Charles Curtis of USA Today), Kelce explained he made the gesture "to spread the love" because there "was a lot of hate pulling up to that stadium, man."

After catching his first of two touchdowns, Kelce looked into the stands and made the heart hands that have become a signature gesture for Swift.

It was initially assumed Kelce was directing the gesture toward his superstar girlfriend, but a fan video revealed it was actually for fans in the stands at Highmark Stadium. The luxury box that Swift and Kelce's friends and family were sitting in was on the opposite side of the field.

Kelce explained on the podcast things being yelled by Bills fans were inappropriate, though he didn't reveal specifically what was said.

"The Bills coming into their house, they want to make it rowdy," he said. "Did it get a little disrespectful? One thousand percent. Did it get a little extra? One thousand percent."

Sunday was a good reminder of how good Kelce still is at this stage of his career. He went seven consecutive games without a touchdown catch dating back to Week 11 before having two against the Bills.

This was the third playoff meeting since the 2020 season between the Chiefs and Bills, but Sunday was their first matchup in Buffalo. It didn't bother the defending Super Bowl champs, who advanced to the AFC Championship Game for the sixth consecutive year.

Kelce and the Chiefs will look for their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the past five seasons on Sunday when they play the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
