Helton and Manning were both members of the Volunteers football team in the 1990s, but the former clearly made the right decision to pursue a baseball career. And the latter, of course, went on to become one of the best signal-callers in NFL history as a Hall of Famer, five-time MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion.
Tuesday was a significant day for Helton, as the Colorado Rockies star was elected to the Hall of Fame alongside Adrián Beltré and Joe Mauer.
Helton played from 1997 through 2013 and finished with a resume that included a batting title, four Silver Slugger awards, three Gold Gloves and five All-Star selections. He slashed .316/.414/.539 with 369 home runs and 1,406 RBI for his career.
And now he is a Hall of Famer, just like his college football teammate.
