Lions 31, Buccaneers 23
Although the Buccaneers recorded 408 total yards, two interceptions from Baker Mayfield combined with a missed field goal from kicker Chase McLaughlin were too much for the team to overcome.
Detroit's offense was humming for most of the afternoon, as rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs racked up 74 yards on nine carries. This included a 31-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give the Lions a 24-17 lead.
Both teams traded trips to the end zone before the Buccaneers received one last shot to tie the game with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. However, Mayfield's second interception was costly as he was picked off by linebacker Derrick Barnes to effectively end the game.
The Lions have excelled in their first postseason appearance under head coach Dan Campbell, making the NFC Championship Game after failing to record a single playoff win since the 1991 season.
Chiefs 27, Bills 24
The Chiefs and Bills fought hard during a brisk evening in Buffalo, as neither team was able to build a double-digit lead. Josh Allen scored the first touchdown of the contest with a five-yard rush in the second quarter, giving the Bills an early 10-3 lead.
The Chiefs quickly responded with 10 straight points, capped off by Travis Kelce's 22-yard receiving touchdown.
After several more lead changes, Kansas City led by three points early in the fourth quarter. Although a failed fake punt set up the Chiefs with excellent field position, a fumble near the goal line by Mecole Hardman gave the ball back to Buffalo.
With just under two minutes remaining, the Bills entered Kansas City's territory before failing to convert on third down. Tyler Bass' 44-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide right, allowing the Chiefs to pull out a tough road playoff win.
Updated Playoff Picture
For the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens will await the Kansas City Chiefs following a 34-10 win over the Houston Texans. The Ravens' victory was far from easy, as the score was tied 10-10 at the half due to a 67-yard punt return touchdown by Texans receiver Steven Sims.
However, the conference's No. 1 seed pulled away in the second half by shutting out Houston's offense in the final two quarters. Lamar Jackson showed why his name has been brought up in MVP discussions all season, completing 72.7 percent of his throws for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Jackson was his typical dominant self on the ground as well, racking up 100 yards on 11 attempts while finding the end zone two more times. This included an eight-yard score to put the final nail in Houston's coffin, capping off a 17-point fourth quarter for the AFC North champions.
The Ravens will attempt to defeat Kansas City and return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2013. It'll likely be a low-scoring affair, as both teams owned the top two scoring defenses throughout the regular season.
The game will also mark the first postseason matchup between Jackson and Mahomes. This represents a tough matchup for the Ravens, as the Chiefs have advanced to the Super Bowl in three of the past four seasons.
The NFC title game will feature the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Lions, with the 49ers narrowly defeating the Green Bay Packers on Saturday 24-21.
San Francisco trailed by seven points entering the fourth quarter, a deficit that the team had never been able to overcome under head coach Kyle Shanahan. However, the 49ers' defense shut out Green Bay's offense in the final quarter before a touchdown run by Christian McCaffrey gave the team a three-point advantage with just over a minute remaining.
On the Packers' final drive, a deep pass from quarterback Jordan Love was intercepted by Dre Greenlaw. Brock Purdy took a knee on the ensuing possession, sending the 49ers to the conference championship game for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
San Francisco will now host Detroit in a battle between two of the top three seeds in the NFC. It'll be a matchup between a couple of high-powered offenses, as the Lions and 49ers finished the regular season with the No. 5 and No. 3 scoring units in the NFL, respectively.
