NFLN: Jared Goff, Lions Contract Extension Talks 'to Ramp Up' After 2024 Playoffs
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff will be entering a contract year next season, but the team reportedly plans on keeping him around well beyond that.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, contract extension talks between Goff and the Lions are expected to "ramp up" after the postseason comes to an end.

Rapoport noted that when the Lions acquired Goff from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 as part of the trade for Matthew Stafford, many around the league expected him to be a bridge quarterback with no real future in Detroit. However, the Lions never viewed him that way and "had hoped that he would be the franchise guy that he has now become."
After some struggles in his first year in Detroit, Goff has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the last two seasons. He was selected to his third Pro Bowl in 2022 after throwing for 29 touchdowns, and he followed up with 30 passing touchdowns this season to help lead the Lions to a 12-5 record and their first division title since 1993.
Goff was able to exact some revenge against his old team, as he helped lead the Lions to a 24-23 win over the Rams in last week's NFC Wild Card Game. It was Detroit's first playoff win since 1991.
Goff and the Lions will be hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Sunday's Divisional Round matchup. If he can help extend Detroit's postseason run, it will certainly bode well for his upcoming contract extension negotiations.
