According to Griffin's story, Gruden asked him to make comments challenging his teammates at a press conference, but then "burned" Griffin publicly and in the locker room because he "didn't have the balls to have my back."
Gruden, who was tagged in the video, chimed in by asking Griffin if he wanted to "play this game?" and posted footage of the former Pro Bowler racing a bird at Lumen Field prior to the first Monday Night Football game of the 2022 season between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.
The public feud began on Monday when Griffin responded to a social media post from Gruden that was critical of the Philadelphia Eagles' game plan in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gruden was the head coach for the Washington Commanders for Griffin's final two seasons with the team from 2014 to '15. He threw for 1,694 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions in seven starts during the 2014 season.
There were reports during the 2015 preseason that Griffin was running Washington's scout team defense as a safety a few weeks after suffering a concussion in a preseason game. He was medically cleared to practice when he worked with the scout team.
Griffin didn't appear in a game in 2015 and was released by the team in March 2016. The former Heisman Trophy winner spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens before shifting into media as a television analyst for ESPN in 2021.
Gruden went 35-49-1 in six seasons as Washington's head coach. He most recently served as an offensive consultant for the Los Angeles Rams during the 2022 season.
