Former Stanford HC David Shaw Interviews for Chargers Job amid Jim Harbaugh Rumors
The Los Angeles Chargers have completed an interview with David Shaw for their vacant head coaching job, the team announced Thursday.
Shaw has worked as an analyst for NFL Network throughout the 2023 season, although he served as Stanford's head coach from 2011 through 2022. He also spent time as an assistant coach at the professional level for teams such as the Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chargers have already announced that they've interviewed Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh for the position and are reportedly hosting former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for an interview on Thursday (per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero).
Shaw's tenure with Stanford's football program was immensely successful, as the team made bowl appearances in each of his first eight seasons as coach. He led the school to three Pac-12 titles and two Rose Bowl victories in his first five years. Shaw eventually stepped down from the role in 2022 after two consecutive losing seasons.
Although he transitioned to a media role, Shaw appears to be open to a return to coaching. Shaw previously interviewed with the Denver Broncos in Jan. 2023 and has "long been a target of NFL teams," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. However, he has reportedly resisted the temptation to return to the league in the past.
The San Diego native could be enticed by the prospect of coaching his former hometown team as well as the Chargers' star signal-caller. Shaw, a former quarterbacks coach, would have the opportunity to work with Pro Bowl passer Justin Herbert.
Herbert has remained one of the few bright spots on Los Angeles' roster following the team's dismal 5-12 season, still looking like a star in his 13 appearances. The former Offensive Rookie of the Year completed 65.1 percent of his throws for 3,134 yards, tossing 20 touchdowns against seven interceptions.
