Knicks Rumors: Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, Draft Picks Shopped by NY at Deadline
Having already made a deal to bring in OG Anunoby, the New York Knicks may not be done making moves ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks are shopping Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes and draft picks in an attempt to upgrade their roster in the next three weeks.
The Knicks have been connected to multiple players leading up to the deadline. Ian Begley of SNY reported on Thursday that some people in the organization have interest in bringing in Bruce Brown Jr.
Brown was traded to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday as part of the Pascal Siakam deal with the Indiana Pacers.
Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray has also been connected to the Knicks, though Scotto noted the package of Fournier, Grimes and picks is being used to explore the market for other potential deals.
Fournier is most likely playing on an expiring contract, though he does have a $19 million team option for 2024-25. He's been relegated to riding the bench for most of the past two seasons.
The 31-year-old has only appeared in two games this season, most recently on Dec. 30 against the Indiana Pacers.
Grimes has also seen his playing time drastically cut this season. He averaged a career-high 11.3 points on 46.8 percent shooting in 29.9 minutes per game over 71 appearances last season, but those numbers are down to 7.1 points on 40.0 percent shooting in 19.8 minutes per contest over 38 appearances so far in 2023-24.
The Knicks could have as many as four first-round draft picks in 2024, though protections on their picks from the Washington Wizards (top 12) and Detroit Pistons (top 18) make it unlikely either one conveys.
Having won seven of their last nine games, the Knicks are sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 24-17 record. They are only three games behind the Philadelphia 76ers for the No. 3 spot.
