Eagles Rumors: Nick Sirianni, Howie Roseman Reaching Out to Coordinator Candidates
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni have reportedly been "reaching out to available NFL coaches and coordinators, as well as coaching agents across the league to evaluate potential coordinator candidates to join their coaching staff as they plan for the 2024 season," according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Sirianni has found himself potentially on the hot seat after the team lost six of its final seven games to close the 2023 campaign, including a 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round, though Russini's initial report would suggest that the head coach might be given another year to turn things around.

There's little doubt that a change at defensive coordinator would be a prerequisite to Sirianni keeping his job. Sean Desai was demoted late in the season and the play-calling duties were handed over to Matt Patricia, only for the Birds to regress even further defensively.
In total, the Eagles finished 26th in yards allowed (356.1 YPG), 30th in points allowed (25.2 PPG), tied for 23rd in takeaways (18) and tied for 19th in sacks (43). All of that after leading the NFL in sacks (70) in 2022 and finishing that season second in yards allowed (301.5 YPG) and eighth in points allowed (20.2 PPG).
Some of that regression came down to Roseman not addressing major needs at linebacker and safety in the offseason, while the play of cornerbacks Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry surprisingly fell off a cliff.
The offense, on the other hand, wasn't an issue during the team's 10-1 start outside of a propensity to start slow. But that group generally recovered in the second half against teams.
During the team's collapse to end the season, however, those recoveries didn't come. Adjustments either came slowly or not at all, the Birds became predictable and static, Hurts finished the year with 20 turnovers and a once-electric offense was held to fewer than 20 points in five of the final seven contests.
Sirianni is 34-17 in his three seasons with three playoff appearances, but during his tenure, the offense has been at its finest when he ceded play-calling duties to former offensive coordinator Shane Steichen midway through the 2021 season.
The head coach said new offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, who replaced Steichen after he took the head-coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts last offseason, primarily called the plays on offense this season, though it was a collaborative effort.
Now, it's debatable whether either Sirianni or Johnson will be back with the team next season. At the very least, expect major changes on the defensive side of the ball.
